Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of netball do you play?
We officially only play ladies netball. A few groups have thought about playing mixed, but it has never eventuated. We will only really recruit girls for netball. Guys should join the footy club!

When do you play?
So far, mainly on Tuesday evenings. We might branch out in the future, but that is enough for now. The game times can be as early as 6pm, which is a bit tricky for some people. Those are only every third week or so.

Where do you play?
Primarily in Waterloo. The courts are outdoors, and there are directions on the Waterloo page. We also have a team playing in White City on Mondays.

What does it cost?
It currently costs 100 pounds for a 14 week season, and you must also buy a club shirt for 10 pounds when you first join. It is a nice sky blue polo shirt.

What do you wear?
Other than the polo, it is fairly flexible. Anything on the bottoms is OK, though we aim to wear black, as it's simplest. Most girls wore shorts in the summer, though something full length might be better in the colder months.

Are they strict on nails?
Yes they are. Long nails need to be clipped before playing. They usually have clippers at the courts. If this is not possible, gloves are allowed to be worn.

What levels do you play?
We have teams in all three grades which are run in Waterloo. So from A grade to C grade we can cater for quite serious players to quite social ones.

How do I join?
Ideally fill in the form on the Recruiting page, but otherwise you can email us at netball. If the teams for the current or upcoming season are full you can be put on the fill-in list which gets used quite regularly, and you'll get first option at joining in for the next season. Alternatively, if you cannot commit to a whole season, just go on the fill-in list for fun.

What does it cost for fill-ins?
Nothing to the netball club, though the association says you have to pay them 10 pounds. If it turns out you are filling in regularly then we you should probably buy the 10 pound club polo as well.

The reason we don't charge fill-ins is that the player who cannot play has paid for the game already. The need for fill-ins is so that the rest of the team aren't playing short. It is a favour to them.

What if I have to leave London or get injured? Can I get a refund? We would try to get you a permanent replacement if there is enough of the season left. This would mean that either the regular fill-ins would have to commit to buying out your spot or we would advertise for the position again. This would probably only be possible if there was still a reasonable amount of the season remaining.

Why is a guy organising a netball club? (I get asked this a lot!) Other than it being great to know lots of delightful young ladies, there is a more accurate reason. The football club wants to have an associated netball club, due to the fact that we are always wanting to recruit players to the football team, and often they have a girlfriend who wants to play netball. In Australia this is really common, and our rivals here all have netball clubs, so it is something of a necessity for us.

So is the netball club for Australians? Not at all. At a guess about half the girls are Aussie, and there are a few kiwis as well. And the rest are English, Welsh, Irish, etc. Everyone is welcome.
