Friendly: Demons vs Wimbledon Hawks (Women)

Demons 2.7.19 vs Hawks 3.1.19

The Demons women's side had no official game this week, however a last minute friendly was arranged with the Wimbledon Hawks. Due to numbers we played a 9-a-side game providing a good opportunity for some of our new players to get involved. Whilst the match was billed as a friendly the tone was set early with a tough contest resulting in a collision between Katie and one of the Hawks. Unfortunately the poor Hawks players broke her nose 1 minute into the game, and Katie had a cut on her head. Thanks to those who were able to assist with this situation as there was quite a lot blood spilt!

The Hawks got a jump on the Demons with some early goals, however we stuck at the task and played some really tough footy. Hard tackling from Emma (Damo) and Amy (Hammond), as well as some great in and under work from Onora and Katie, the Demons dragged themselves back into the game during the 2nd half. Tessa was one of our standout players with her clean hands and ability to evade opposition players all day. Were it not for some wayward kicking in the 2nd half we may have come away with a win, the final kick of the day agonisingly dribbled wide for a point which tied the game at 19 each. With only 1 player playing from last year's premiership side, Captain for the day Pinks, it was really positive to see all the new girls getting involved and playing some great footy.

Thanks to Kaz, Bazza (Liv), Ringo (Lyndall) and Onora who all played a half each for the Hawks to keep numbers even and give all of our girls a run, as well as the Prez for umpiring and Cooney, Casa, Tank and Nic-Nat for goal umpiring.
