RD6 '18: Demons VS Lions (Conf)

Tony White | 22.06.18

Clapham Demons 14.12.96 def North London Lions 5.2.32

Having played each other once, the Conference division reached the half way point, and so far so good for the Demons. As we entered the second half the season we made the trek up north to Bounds Green to take on the North London Lions.

The lions form has been a little up and down this year but playing their ground is always tricky. It's small and favours one end. Winning the toss we kicked with the wind and we were able to get out the blocks early. The midfield were on top from the start led by Chester, in a Koutoufides type display, dominating in the ruck and around the ground all day. A pleasing first quarter albeit wayward in front of goal, the dees went into quarter time 3 goals 6 behinds to the Lions 1 goal.

In the second quarter we were against breeze and up the hill. The message was simple, defend, defend, defend. In our best quarter for the day we were able to restrict the Lions to 1 goal and managed to bang on 4 ourselves. This was on the back of some fantastic work in middle from H and Metcalfe and our wingers Pilgs and Maka winning plenty of the ball. Down back it was Morgs who repelled each of the Lions attacks and Kraken who played his best quarter for the club.

The third term continued for the demons as two quick clearances resulted in two goals from Soon in the space of a minute. A dominate quarter from the dees as we set up a commanding lead going into the last.

To the Lions credit and disappointingly for ourselves, the Lions rallied in the last quarter to win the quarter, but it was the demons running out 10 goals winners.

This week the magoos boys look forward to a well-deserved break as we have a bye. We will be well rested and back at it the following weekend as we take on the Giants.

Go Dees!
