Wandsworth Demons 12.8.80 def London Swans 6.12.48
After a convincing win against the swans, the Premiership team felt they hadn't played the style of footy they think will win them a flag. The focus this week was to go to back to basics and play team footy; to their credit that's exactly what they did.
Jeffers lost the toss resulting in us kicking uphill and into a stiff breeze. The backline was formidable and held strong against a barrage of inside 50's, they were able to force the ball wide giving the lions low percentage scoring opportunities. On the other end of the ground, Dickfos (in for his first game after dominating the conference division) was integral in ensuring a goal in each of the Demon's surges forward.
The second quarter became a very bruising encounter; several clashes and injuries left the demons with no usable bench at half time. The midfield really stepped up here and carried the team through the rest of the game with no rotations. Pollard showed again he is a cut above the rest winning a load of contested footy and always driving the ball forward. The midfield can't be mentioned without giving Borg, Jeffers, Grundy and Tyqqin due credit, they dominated all day, consistently outplaying the Lion's midfield.
After a hard fought 3rd quarter into the breeze, the demons held a 4 goal advantage. Fresh in their mind was the complacency shown in round 2 where the lions came from behind to nearly snatch victory. The demons came out firing and kicked the first goal with some sharp skills from David Jordan and Adam Jeffery on the goal line. The big men continued to control the game, with Dickfos and Irving dominating the midfield, ruck and forward line, as they'd done all day. All in all, a lot of heart shown and above everything else, a great team win!
Best: Jordan Pollard, Alexander Dickfos, Brayden Irving, Adam Grundy, Adam Jeffery, David Jordan
