RD7.5 '18: Demons vs Giants (W.Prem)

Mitch "Boxy" Skelly | 05.07.18

Wandsworth Demons 7.10.52 def South East London Giants 7.3.9

Round 7 saw the She-Dee's separated by the length of the number 37 bus line as the Conference side ventured to Putney, whilst the Premiership headed to Peckham. It was another scorcher of a day for footy, with a slight breeze and some handsome water boys the only respite. Thanks to Kraken, SheG, Dundon, Joe Lee and anyone else who helped out on the day.

Whilst the game wasn't one for the ages, it was a day in which we said goodbye to Maddy and Vicks, whilst welcoming Simo, Amy Dubs, Pinks, Julz Hockey, Arnie and Connos to the Premiership side for the first time this year. We will certainly miss Maddy's dash off half back and Vick's forward line pressure, meaning everyone else will need to step up in the coming weeks.

With so many changes it took a little while to get going, but it was the finishing skills of the @LindaConnollyOfficial that got the Dee's on the score board early. Playing only her 2nd game of footy for the club, Guns was firing in all directions, at one point even winning a centre clearance and kicking to the Giants attacking 50, but fortunately not causing any harm. In "starch" contrast, Spud also kicked the ball the wrong way which resulted in the Giants only goal for the match, however she did manage to back a couple herself so we’ll let her off on this occasion.

The backline was well marshalled by Prip and Becks, with Connos, Moans and Julz all slotting in nicely too, whilst Porta and Steve provided run on the wings. Up forward Springs always looked dangerous, both literally and metaphorically, and was able to create some goals with little off-load hand passes. As usual the mids got great service from Sez Hockey, B, Trucker and Karis making the most of her hard work with plenty of centre clearances. Vicks, Noodles and Spud also got themselves on the scoreboard with a few tasty snag rolls.

Probably the 2 biggest talking points post-match was the number of missed opportunities for the team, and in particular Trucker. All day opportunities were wasted in front of goal, although the only person happy about this was Yeao who had a mohawk on the line should Trucker have kicked a goal. Training this week will certainly involve some goal kicking practice to ensure we’ve got this right come the finals!

Friday night's Pride game against the Wildcats promises to be a fabulous occasion, with the rainbow jerseys, socks and face paint excitement will be at a peak, but most importantly a game against the 3rd place Wildcats in our quest to remain unbeaten.

Goals: Linda 3, Spud 2, Vicks 1, Noodles 1
Best: Guns, Trucker, Spud, Maddy, Linda
