RD8 '18: Demons vs Wildcats (Men's Conference)

Tony "Whitey" White | 12.07.18

Clapham Demons 6.4.40 def Shepherds Bush Raiders 4.3.27

Round 8 saw the conference boys take on the Shepard’s Bush Raiders. It was a hot old day and with the team size reduced to 16 players, it was bound to be a tough day. And that it was!

There were plenty of changes this week, none more important than welcoming Nathan ‘Shit Frase’ Anstey back on the magnets, replacing Dom ‘ the most famous chrome dome in South East Asia’ Dunn whilst he was sipping pims at Wimbledon. We also welcomed 3 first gamers in Wazza, Charlie Rae and Smokey.

As is always expected when playing against the Raiders, the game was very competitive from start to finish.

In a low scoring affair the demons managed to snag the first couple on the back of some great work in the middle from Chester, Metcalfe, H and Wazza. Big Charlie Rae manged to get on the end of a few which saw the demons go into half time, 3 goals to the Raiders 1.

The third quarter was an arm wrestle with neither team able to break away. The demons defence led by Whitehead, Hamarbae and Skelly repelled a number of the raiders attacks, and coupled with some wayward kicking from the Raiders, the game was right in the balance going into the last.

We entered the final quarter holding onto a 13 point lead, but knowing the raiders are a quality outfit, we knew they were going to fight till the end. And that they did as the raiders were able to kick 2 goals, bringing the margin down to 1 behind. With 5 minutes remaining Wazza and Metcalfewere able to win two crucial clearances for the Dees resulting in 2 goals and a 13 point victory! You beauty!

In testing conditions it was great to see the boys fight it out till the end and  more importantly lock in a top two finish.

This week we are back on the common as we welcome the Putney Magpies in our Round 9 clash.

Go Dees!
