Semi Final '18: Demons vs Lions (Women's Premiership)

Mitch "Boxy" Skelly | 03.08.18

Wandsworth Demons 1.2.8 def. by North London Lions 6.5.41

The women's Premiership side came up against a hungry pride of lions on the weekend was got taught a lesson in what finals footy is all about. From the outset 1 team looked as if they were prepared to run through walls to win, whilst the other looked as if they were expecting it would happen...

The conditions were tricky with a howling wind, and if we had our time again there are things we could have set up differently, however the first quarter was pretty much owned by North London. Tester was fighting hard in the backline but most the Lions had the better of most duals.

After quarter time we started with a classic Demons centre clearance which showed things maybe turning around, Katie was looking very lively up forward kicking our only goal of the day, however our midfield was too often 2nd to the ball and our backline was unable to stop the Lions extending their lead.

The 3rd quarter saw some Demons having a good crack, especially Springs who was surging the ball forward all on her own on many occasions, however we were unable to capitalise with too many players still 2nd to the footy.

During the 4th quarter we were up against it, with pretty much no bench and down by 5 goals. There was no miraculous comeback, nor did there deserved to be, and for the first time in 2 seasons we walk away from a game disappointed with the scoreboard result and the effort shown. The positive is we finished on top of the ladder and get a well earnt chance to turn things around this weekend. It starts with training intensity, turning up to the game at the time you're asked, respecting the opposition and following instructions. If all of these things are done and we have 24 committed players we can still walk away with success, however anything less won't be good enough.

Goals - Katie 1
