Prelim Final '18: Demons vs Wildcats (Women's Premiership)

Wandsworth Demons 5.3.33 def West London Wildcats 0.0.0

Following the disappointment of the previous weekend the Premiership She-Dees had a cracking week on the track and carried this into Saturday. Pre match the build-up was spot on and all signs were pointing to a strong performance. We won the first tap and surged the ball forward to Nom Fimma who attacked the footy hard off the half-forward line, taking a big collision from 2 Wildcats and winning a free kick. Unfortunately Nom was left very sore in the neck region and the first aid on hand took all of the correct precautions to ensure there was no risk of further damage before moving her. Following the 50 minute break the game was shortened to 12 minute quarters, with 10 left on the clock in the 1st term. It was hard to get that buzz back after seeing one of our friends go down injured, but to their credit the Dee’s still managed to play some good She-Dee footy. Porta was looking dangerous up forward and Trucker kicked a lovely goal from 40m out.

Our midfield was dominant with Spud playing a new position and winning plenty of clearances, whilst B was doing the grunt work in and under as usual. Playing her first premiership game Jessie was electric out on the wing and I would love to see what she can do with a full season under her belt. Crofty picked up a goal, with Guns, Becks and Onora at half back not giving the Cats a look in.

In the 2nd half it was very congested with the opposition dropping players back to make life hard, however Springs did what Springs does and broke through 3 tackles before setting up Porta with her 2nd goal. The pace of the game dropped a little, however it was pleasing to see everyone was committed to the cause and not giving the opposition an inch.

In the final term Jamie pushed forward and kicked a goal, whilst Nic B went in to the ruck and won plenty of taps. We’re very grateful to have had Nic, Jenny and Liv step up after missing out on a game in the Conference side. Without them providing fresh legs in the 2nd half we would have really struggled to run out the game.

A good performance without being electric, we now get a chance to take on the Lions again and show why we finished on top. The performance of the Conference side on the weekend gone should be all the inspiration anyone needs, it shows what a tight knit group of people can do when they put everything they’ve got into winning. I can’t wait for Saturday and a chance to see this amazing footy club do something remarkable… #DEE5
