RD1 '19: Demons vs Lions (Women's Premiership)

Wandsworth Demons 6.6.42 def. North London Lions 1.3.9

Round 1 for the Prems girls was a Grand Final rematch against the Lions, a real test given many players were new to the club, some new to the game, and a new coach to cap it off.

The game looked like it might become a rolling maul of contests, but then the SheDees managed to get it out the back and spread it wide, delivering it well into our forward line. Our movement over the day was great to see, with many girls getting a few clearances and taking uncontested marks. We had control of the game and were playing in our 50.

Despite our good ball movement, the lions were not down and out, and did manage to make a comeback in the 2nd to keep us on our toes. The game swung more between the 50s and tested our defence, who held strong and rebounded the ball out well.

Jaime Regoli was up with the best, returning from representing the Australian Spirit. You wouldn't know she was coming off knee troubles, as she played a great quarterback role, feeding our rovers and getting clearances herself. The team scored 6 goals for the game and she scored half of them as a midfielder.

This was off the back of our mobile ruck, Jordan Barrett, who proved her own taps and got clearances all day. Other honourable mentions were Jessica Tester at fullback. Without our skipper PripJester stood up for the role and played it perfectly. Several intercept marks to stop the lions scoring. Emily Rohr also did well in her first game as a Demon, taking two intercepts on our fwd 50 to lock the footy in.

A stirring effort from the prems girls to finish 6.6.36 to the Lions 1.3.9. Ready to take on the Wimbledon Hawks this week.
