RD2 '19: Demons vs Hawks (Women's Premiership)

Wandsworth Demons 9.15.69 def. Wimbledon Hawks 0.0.0

Round 2 for the Prem SheeDees saw us take on the Wimbledon Hawks away. On a high from last weeks win, we felt good going into this one, confident we could out play them and boy oh boy wowee did we ever.

Right from the first bounce, the game was played in our forward 50, as we spread the ball beautifully from the contest and never gave our forwards a rest by constantly booting it in. Our mids did a great job of locking it in the forward by making a strong wall.

Wimbledon's game plan appeared to be numbers at the contest and congest their backline, which worked to our advantage as our mids were able to keep it in there. However this did make it hard for our forwards to get clean looks at goal, as the scoreboard began to show.

The hardest part of the day was getting our backs involved, as it rarely came past halfway. They did a stellar job to keep them scoreless all day, despite not seeing it regularly.

Chloe Hall might need to get checked by her GP for leather poisoning as she was the definition of a ball magnet, sitting out the back and running for clearance after clearance. After a while, I gave her a licence to run and follow the ball anywhere, and she delivered.

Jess Jones improved on her game from last week, starting at halfback and moving to wing, then forward, getting clearances and marks inside 50 on the way. She also managed to get the old 7-point play!

Honourable mentions to German Nat, who was a great forward pocket, crumbing and getting her own footy, and the two Emily's, Kelly in her first game for the SheDees, providing great clearances and Rohr with great tackle pressure, particularly one huge hip and shoulder that literally steamrolled her opponent - the poor girl.

A week off before our next game, followed by a mid-week primetime slot - 7pm on the Common. Should be a cracker!
