RD2 '19: Demons vs Wildcats (Premiership)

Sam Milne | 19.05.19

Wandsworth Demons 5.2.31 def. by West London Wildcats 17.15.117

It was a tough day at the office for the Men’s Prems team, coming up against a very strong West London Wildcats. The first quarter was a good battle, with the boys matching the Wildcats intensity for most of the quarter. It was clear early on the style of play that Wildcats were going to play, which was a fast, high possession type game. Wildcats put the foot down in the second quarter and outplayed us, playing at a much higher intensity and using the ball well to go into the half time break with a big lead.

The second half saw the Wildcats continue to outplay us, however the boys battled on gamely to go down by around 70 points. We had some good contributors throughout the day including Stew Williams and Ned Hunt down back, the walking torpedo himself Pig up forward, as well as midfield contributions from Borgy, Jeffers, Brayden and Dundon.

A massive shoutout to the boys that played not only their first game for the club, but also their first ever game of AFL football. This included the kiwi boys Oscar ‘Pistorius’ Stewart, Matt O’Neill and Benji Reid, as well as fan favourite Augustus “Go Gussy” Lonsdale. After a brief outline of the game, including what the ‘ruck’ position was and how many points for kicking it through the big and small sticks, the boys were thrown out onto the field and represented themselves and the club extremely well!

Another big mentioned to Albert ‘Lionel Messi’ Barca on his first Prem’s game for the club, living up to his name by kicking a cracking Messi type goal to cap off a terrific debut. Also a big shoutout to club legend and stalwart Andy ‘Undy’ Smith for being a rock solid contributor on the day and helping the boys out with his experience.

We now have a couple of weeks off before our next game against the Lions 2’s where the boys will be looking to bounce back onto the winners list.
