Clapham Demons 9.7.61 def. North London Lions (Prem) 9.4.58
With half of Ballarat lining up for the Magoos, it was no surprises we felt right at home playing in the middle of nowhere. With temperatures hotter than Fintan’s rig at 4am on a Sunday morning, the last thing anyone wanted to be doing was playing footy. But with plenty to play for, the boys were up for the fight as we took on the North London Lions on their home deck at Bounds Green.
A jovial start to the day as the sniggers and laughter rang loud when Isaac Kirby was announced to take the kick outs. It appears the hipster from the Rat has had us all fooled as I was assured by the fresh faces that Kirbs should definitely not be playing that role. It would then seem I lost all credibility when laughter broke as I moved him to CHF. Looks like it’s back to lock down full back.
The tone for the day was set in the midfield, with H, Darcy and Ennis winning contest after contest. New comer Cook did a fantastic job in ruck, particularly considering the other bloke was about 8 foot tall. And up forward it was Rhys Monument looking most dangerous.
In a seesaw battle, neither team was able to kick clear as the game went down to wire. James 'Morri’ Morrish turned one of the more easier goals to kick into a Eddie Betts special, giving the Dees a fighting chance coming into the last.
The last quarter saw the demons show real fight. With Kirby in his natural home and Roysey thrown down back, we were able to repel a number of the Lions entries. H and Darcy were instrumental in the last, with Darcy slotting a nice sausage for his third of the day.
In a tense final quarter, it was the Dees rolling out victors with a 3 point win. You beauty!
Best on: Darcy Taylor, H, Ennis, Monument and back from injury Eagle. In in fact the whole team played well.
Special mention to Tori, Amy, and Tank who made the trek to give us a helping hand. Much appreciated!
We now move on to a massive game against the Raiders, Friday night on the common!
