Semi Final '19: Demons vs Roos (Social)

Eoin Kenny | 25.07.19

South London Demons 16.12.108 def. Reading Roos 2.2.14

First week of finals and the Super 3’s are where they belong! To quote our Spiritual Leader, Mark Brescasin ‘We don’t play in week two!!’

That was the overarching belief and what a statement the lads made on Saturday morning down in Peckham...

After receiving news our opponents Reading had a core group of their players head off to Liquicity festival in the Dam, we were asked to play 16 a side, then 15 a side, then finally 14 a side in the 1v2 clash to guarantee a GF spot for AFL London social division... we duly obliged and really made them wish the whole club took the weekend off to enjoy the music festival...

I asked for commitment and focus and a 5 goal 1st quarter and the boys delivered.... into the breeze Mark, Lachlan Robinson, Darcy Looker and Liam Beychaz all did what they’ve been doing all year and got the start we were all after...

Having 10 guys on the bench really kept Mitch Harold and James Deagan occupied on white board Duties and a 4am Infernos finish for runner Nick Barrett was starting to look like a bad idea... Sam ‘Dogga’ Riley was an early beneficiary of this and he was able to put the cue in the rack early and rest his dodgy back...

The game continued to progress how we wanted and with a little head knock, John Dillon was the next to call it a day after a late cheap shot from the Reading fullback...

With Darcy being called up to the 2’s at half time the bench started to get a good run and Zazu and Gaza Reilly did everything that was asked of them.

The highlight of the day, besides Bresc‘s 6 goals, was the emergence of a new focal point on the eve of the Grand Final in Patty Mulherin!! What a game from the big bloke kicking 5 straight and subbing out Lachlan in the ruck in the last... looking to big things from him in 2 weeks time come Grand Final day...

We ran out 90+ winners on the day and no serious injuries...

Huge shout out to our very own White McLeod in Steven Pilgrim who played his last game for the club... Pilgs, you’ve been an amazing part of this club and key to the super 3’s for the last 2 years. We wish you all the best and I tried my hardest to get you that goal... blame The other OE, Eoin O’Murchu for completely dissing you on the line in the last...

Can’t wait for our chance at 5 flags next weekend boys...
