Demons vs Birmingham Uni/Nottingham Scorpions (Women)

Coach Skelly | 28.03.17

The she-dee-pre-season continued on the weekend with a trip to Birmingham for a march against a strong Birmingham Uni and Nottingham Scorpions combined side. The Demons presence was brilliant, 27 players making the trip up and all bar 1 staying the night, which coincidentally did feature a few cocktails at the local All Bar One post-match.

The game was played as 15 per side on a rugby length field, so things were a little congested at times, however the discipline of the midfield marshalled by B allowed for plenty of space for the forwards; 3 goals from Noodles and 1 from Beth the main contributors.

As the game wore on injuries and fitness became an issue and the Birmy side started to take control. Greg, Katie and 1st gamer Elko battled hard in the ruck against the best female rucklady in the country, however our mids were often on the back foot and found it tough going during the 2nd half. Some great defending and attacking runs from half back by Snakesy provided excitement, as did Naomi Fim's first ever game of footy in which she found plenty of the ball.

In the end we were overrun by an opposition that featured several experienced GB players and a few demons who were kindly filling in. Despite the result this match was further evidence of the depth of talent we have heading into 2017 and more positives were gained than negatives.

The game was followed by a men's match where an inspirational 5 goal cameo from yours truly was not enough to guide the Birmy boys to victory over the Wimbledon Hawks (had to slip that in somewhere), as well as a big Saturday night on the booze that allowed some hidden talents to be discovered... Tinni's beat boxing skills, Amy "Rippa" Taylor's vocals and Snakesy dance moves were the talk of the town, as was the sexual act taking place by a local on his balcony opposite our hotel in broad daylight.

Just to cap things off there was a 90 minute training session on Sunday that allowed us to work on some areas of improvement, as well as a chance to run out a few bruises and sweat out some drinks.

Thanks to those that made the effort to attend, to B and the others who made it happen and Birmingham for hosting us. Good luck to the girls who were injured, hopefully we have you back out there soon, and fingers crossed this is the last lot of injuries for a while.

Final Score
Demons 4.4.28
Birmingham 7.6.48

Goals - Noodles 3, Beth 1
Best Players - Macca, Noodles, B, Katie, Nom
