Round 1 for the Women's Premiership team saw us take on the Hawks on their turf in Motspur Park. The rivalry is well known and the Demons turned up ready for battle.
First quarter we had the advantage of a strong breeze & capitalised on it. We thought the second quarter & the rest of the match may see a bit more action in our defensive 50, but from the first bounce it was she-dee footy at it's finest.
Crofty's demon debut saw her dominate in the ruck. Supported by a stella midfield combination of B, Tessa, Onora and Katie, they worked the ball hard and fast into our forward line time and time again.
Special guest Tossa ran riot in the midfield and across the half-forward, teaching us all a few lessons in smart footy, commitment to the ball and using space. She also bagged a goal for herself and assisted Gaby on her debut for the club.
Up front seasoned veterans of the she-demons Noodles, Linda & Socksy were strong targets while our newbies Nom, Fifa & Gaby stepped into their small forward positions beautifully. Once that ball entered the 50 it wasn't coming out until somebody had scored. The wall, supported by Captain Becks who was left loose on the half back, was almost impenetrable. Whenever the ball made it's way towards our defensive 50, the midfield and a strong backline were ready to drive it forward again.
Final whistle blew and the demon domination was official. We'd kept the Hawks scoreless in the first hit out for the season. I couldn't be happier with the skill and determination that was displayed by all who took to the field & can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store.
