With a competition bye last Saturday, the Conference team played host to the Canadian Development squad. The match presented a great opportunity to get some run in the legs and a chance for boys to put their hand up for selection. The Canadians resembled more of a forward pack than a football team, so we knew we were in for a physical game. And they didn’t disappoint!
To the Canadians credit they competed well but the class of the demons midfield, with G, Fintan and first gamer Matt Reen leading the way, they were no match.
But the crowd was there to see one man. Frank Caldow. He quickly squashed any ounce of fact to the claim he kicked 118 in season, when his first set shot at goal came off his shin and trickled no more than 10 metres. Think we will need to go to the record books to check the legitimacy of that one. Despite this hiccup the forward line worked well and were able to create a number of chances resulting in plenty of goals. Turk popped up for a crucial goal to round out the half and the Dees went in to half time on top.
The backline held strong throughout the game, particular mention to Torpey, NZ Richie and the usual suspect Sharpley.
A comfortable win for the conference side and all in all a great team performance. Best players for the day, G, Fintan, Bambi, and Torpey.
Big shout out to Ben Ryan and Mangoes for playing, in what was their second game for the day and to Denzo and his crew for stepping in. Attention now turns to Putney as we try and put two wins on the trot.
