If a BYE makes for a long week in football then a double bye feels like eternity. Round 4 saw the conference women back on the park for the first time since round 1 and scoring their maiden win in the newly formed Women's Conference comp. With the sun searing, the pollen count extreme and the visibility grassy a new look team due to plenty of bank holiday weekend omissions saw the Conference gals take on the Putney pies.
From the first bounce it was Dees footy. First touch, first kicks, first goals! With plenty of forward line entries, an unstoppable wall from our mids and some supreme forward line pressure to cause turnovers, club veteran Screech was able to get on the score board first! This was soon followed up by another from first time goal kicker and Canadian import MC, who instead of playing her usual role as hard tagger had licence go free range with a beaut goal on the run.
The second quarter saw Macca (BOG), go another gear, an unstoppable force throughout the game with 2nd and 3rd efforts at the ball, running through as a quick release option and holding that wall like a white walkers invasion was imminent! She was well supported by Auto playing all over the ground, who managed to snag our only goal in the second quarter.
With a comfortable three goal lead going into the 3rd quarter, coach Becks had the luxury of mixing it up and trying some defenders in the forward line. With girls playing brilliantly end to end, finding the corridor, making leads, dishing out some great handballs from the pack and strong marks it was Fizzy and MC who were able to convert to extend our lead.
Continuing into the fourth, the Dees pushed their brand of team footy throughout and were able to keep the visitors goalless for the day, with Buckets booting a goal to round out a solid 4 quarters from the Demons. Start learning the Dees song ladies because there will plenty more singing opportunities this season!!
